What a service contract should include
A complete service contract protects both parties, sets clear expectations, and gives you a clean paper trail if a dispute ever comes up.
- Parties and contacts. The business legal name and license number, and the customer name, address, phone, and email
- Scope of services. Exactly what is covered, what is excluded, and the service frequency or response window for emergency calls
- Term and renewal. Start date, end date, and whether the contract auto-renews for another term or requires a new signature
- Pricing and payment. The contract price, when it bills, accepted payment methods, and any late fees or service charges
- Cancellation and termination. How either party ends the contract, the notice period required, and any early-cancellation fee
- Liability and insurance. Confirmation that the contractor carries general liability and workers comp, and the certificate holder details if required
- Signatures. A place for both parties to sign and date, with a witness or notary line if state law requires it
- Governing law and venue, which state law governs the contract and which court hears disputes
