How gross weekly pay breaks down
Gross pay is two buckets added together: the hours at the regular rate, plus the hours over the threshold at time-and-a-half. Get those two right and the total takes care of itself.
Regular pay
hours up to 40 × rateEvery hour up to the weekly threshold is paid at the tech's normal rate. At $25 an hour, a full 40-hour week is $1,000 in regular pay before any overtime.
Overtime pay
hours over 40 × rate × 1.5Hours past the threshold are paid at 1.5x the rate. At $25 an hour, that's $37.50 per overtime hour, six overtime hours adds $225 on top of the regular $1,000.
This calculator handles gross pay only, what the tech earned before withholding. It does not take out federal or state tax, Social Security, or Medicare, and it doesn't cut a check. Hand the gross to your payroll provider for net pay and the filings.
